Senior Test Technician
Lou's responsibilities with CITECH include testing and certification of a broad range of medical devices. He is involved with test criteria development for devices in cases where standards do not exist, and has extensive experience testing to many US and international medical device standards.
Other positions held by Lou since 1980 include senior hospital BMET, supervisor with a third-party clinical engineering group, field service repair and preventive maintenance technician, and self-employment as a medical equipment consultant. Lou has been working with CITECH since 1991.
Mr. Schonder earned a Certificate in Electronics Engineering Technology in 1979 and a First-Class FCC License in 1980. He has taken courses in medical device technology and medical device technology management, and earned a Certificate in Small Business Management from the Wharton Small Business Development Center in 1993.
Mr. Schonder received ICC Biomedical Electronics Technician (CBET) Certification in 1986 (Certificate #2598).
Lou has recently served as the President of the Philadelphia Area Medical Instrumentation Association (PAMIA) (1993-94) and Vice-President (2003-05), and is presently the PAMIA Treasurer. He was on the Board of Directors of the Clinical Engineering Society of Pennsylvania (CESP), and is a associate member of the American College of Clinical Engineering (ACCE). His volunteer work has also included serving as the Director of Medical Programs of the medical charitable organization Project Open Hearts, and serving on its Board of Directors (2003-07). He traveled and served with the group in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan (1998), Karaganda, Kazakhstan (1999), Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia (2001, 2002 and 2003), and Dar es Salaam, Tanzania (2004 and 2006).
In 2007, Lou Schonder founded earthMed, an organization providing volunteer medical charitable support in developing countries, and is serving as earthMed's Director.
